Trailerwork

Core trailer project for indie feature by director Ramin Serry. It’s an interesting, offbeat story of a man adrift in life - something like a NY version of “Greenberg” - and it was a challenge to capture its hybrid tone and story flow. The track by Spoon (”Trouble Comes Running”) strikes the right balance - rough, self destructive, frantic, fun - in the third act. The film has a jump cutty Godardian quality and it was fun to work the graphics in a purposefully sloppy way. Props to Phil Morisson’s great “Junebug (2005)” which exploited the two frame “optical overlap” technique as well. It’s funny when what probably started as a laboratory error that filmmakers didn’t have the money to fix, actually becomes hip. I look forward to seeing how LOVELESS, which contains some fantastic acting and whipsharp writing, does on the marketplace. Hopefully this helps it cut through.
